I too have wondered how people who were once PO's can achieve a certain level of authority and become so malicious, petty and vindictive. My only thought must be that their personal lives, what little they have, must be in shambles, and their only outlet for authority, since they have none at home, is this job. That's why they stay till 63. If they leave at 55, for example,. that's a potential for 8 more years at home full time with your family, the wife telling you to throw out the garbage or put away your laundry, and who in their right mind wants that? So they stay till the bitter end. That way they can make it seem like the job is on the level, and this is a "career" worthy of dedicating every second of our lives, and not a civil service job, which is what it is. Not to say you shouldn't take pride in what you do and who you are, because you should, but some people need to see the entire picture and forget what's important.
