50 years ago we kept everything on the QT!
A guy I worked with left his 4 inch home, but had a 2 inch in his locker; he shoved it in his holster and went on patrol!
Another guy left his service gun home and just borrowed another cop's who was going off!
"No problem" he said. "Just try not to shoot anyone!'
We were tight in those days!

I remember one old hairbag who never took his service gun out of the holster for years; just threw it and the leather in the locker EOT.
I don't even think he ever went to shoot on a yearly basis. When they finally got him in it was caked on the inside with all kinds of crud, and food droppings, and the gun was rusty and the cylinder had to be oiled up and pried open!
The whole fuc-king mess had taken on a life of it's own, and things were growing in the holster!
