Not a bad job on the celebration, brought me back to the Mutts of my youth-Swan, Flynn, Stearns, Brooks. I guess Frank Taveras was busy. Saw this on another message board:

I was hoping they would have had David Wright come out and strike out, stranding all the Mets greats on the bases

Doc should have been introduced right before Seaver, but nice job having Seaver throw the last pitch (even though he bounced it).

A large, round, drafty, leaky, noisy, older stadium, but it was from our youth, and in our memories.

A place where we as kids would go on a summer Friday night, from the Rockaways, on the lousy A train. We would go up the upper decks and scream and yell to players, who of course would never hear us. Shea was where my late Dad, working for the Post Office, would take me to watch my first ballgame. How green was the grass against the dark night. The 2008 N.Y.Mets, losing again, on the very last day, as they did in 2007, making this day bitter sweet. Goodbye Shea stadium, and the 2007 N.Y.Mets. Better luck next year at your new park, Citi field.

At least the closing made me feel better for being a Mets fan for 39 years. I was 10 years old when my father, rest his soul, brought me to my first game at Shea Stadium in September of 1973 againest Pittsburgh when they entered first place for the first time that year. I remember the stands bouncing up and down. I remember the lean years of the late '70's and early '80's. Actually saw the Yankees play the Twins at Shea back in 1975. Who could forget 1986? Took my oldest to see the Mets win over the Yankees and a subway series game.

This weekend the circle was complete when my oldest and I took his five year old brother to his first and last Mets game at Shea Stadium.

Thanks for the memories!

Anyone know why Mookie wasn't there I mean if the crackhead,wife beating tax cheat both of them made it why wasn't the Mookster there?

I thought it was nice even up till the end when Tom @Mike walked out and closed the fence and the lights went out one last time.

by the way when Tom took down the #2 I said it looked like he was sampling some of his vino so he must have had quite a bit to bounce the ball.

It was nice to see some of the fan favorites today.

and I thought it was a nice touch to have YOGI there also

Great memories

When the Yankees played there for 2 years back in the 70s ,,,My brothers and friends would sneak into Shea by laying a police barricade against the outside wall and then scamper up to the runway. Got in a coupla times like that. Bobby Murcer hated the place,,I don t think he hit but a handful of Homeruns there. Ahhh Bye Bye Shea

Took my son, paid a lot for tickets but seeing the amazement and excitement in my sons face during the ceremony , and my own nostalgic memories, made sitting in the rain and watching the Mets eliminated again money well spent.

Saw some great games and shows at shea-73 playoffs -bud and pete rose fight-Buzz Capra-beating the crap out of pedro borbon in that fight----pete rose getting his 45th hit in 45 games-Lee may of the reds-hitone into the parking lot-The stones-great show-Bruce-at shea---Saw Hank Aaron play-willie Mays-w/ thE Giants//Remember the Yankees play there--when the Giants played there---THANKS SHEA-WILL REMEMBER YOU FONDLY..................

Was "The Stork" there?

Oh, yeah! The good ole Stork was there - looking every bit like an elderly college professor. One of the all-time favorite characters of Met fans. Speaking of characters, anyone remember that relief pitcher (who played around the same time Stork did) with the coke-bottle glasses (although he did end up wearing contact lenses most of the time)? Skip Lockwood. A decent bullpen guy. I would have been nice to have seen him there (along with Randy Myers, Roger McDowell, or even Jeff Innis to give Franco some company). I guess the Mets' front office doesn't want to be reminded of how decent their bullpen used to be!
