Gendar goes on to detail and marvel at some of the changes in the course such as;
1) Latest DNA tracking
2) Corrections dept intel on gangs
3) Case management
Wow Alison you would of had a huge scoop here if it were not for one thing; I went to the CIC and Homicide courses over 10 years ago and everything you described was already in place. Neither course was about just war stories, that's a flat out lie. Specific cases were analyzed from beginning to end to illustrate the point made by the speaker. If that's just telling war stories I'm going to have to challenge your integrity as a reporter.
Kelly stated he was committed to get the best training for his detectives. Why did you not ask why are Ray Pierce and Lt. Vernon Geberth both banned from those training courses? There is probably close to 70 years experience in police work between the two men. Geberth wrote the homicide investigators bible, "Practical Homicide Investigation" (ISBN#0-8493-8156-8). Ray Pierce was the only NYPD detective to attend the full FBI profilers course, which I believe is several weeks long. Why no questions about those two? I heard both men speak when I attended and I can tell you I learned a great deal. Some people were supposedly put off by "crass" comments Geberth made during his presentation? You've got to be kidding me. Get off the job if a few bad words offends you, crybaby!
But the real reason Geberth is not welcome back is his critisim of Ray Kelly for not having the Olsen twin called by Heath Ledgers massueuse interviewed by detectives. Gendar reported on that but somehow it slipped her mind during this interview. I don't think that's an accident. I honestly feel Gendar is spoon fed info from DCPI and this woman just takes it at face value and puts it in print. She has to be one of the laziest reporters, or she's afraid to rock the boat and lose her job. I feel she should be fired. Why does the Daily News need her when Paul Brown can just have a PAA take some notes from him and just send it direct to the Daily News to print? It will cut out the middleman, Gendar and the paper can save money to compete with internet news.
The real story here is there are 1,871 Detective investigators with only two years on the job doing investigations. So the real question here is why are veteran detectives leaving in droves? I had 11 years in the Bureau when I left. I keep hearing people talking about paying higher salaries and bonuses to people in some professions to keep the best, but not ours, why?
I guess that's a question that's too hard for Gendar to handle. Because if she did she would realize the retention problems stem from mismanagement caused by COMSTAT, and bosses that became bosses after 5 years. She would have to see that the problem is the very people making her drink their kool-aid. She would realize she would actually have to do heavy lifting, ask tough questions and she does not have the guts or the talent for either.
IF YOU THINK ALISON GENDAR IS AS BIG A HACK AS I DO THEN CUT PASTE AND SEND THIS TO HER AT
