A Staten Island ferry packed with 750 people slammed into a dock in Staten Island tonight, leaving nine on board with minor injuries,
authorities said.
The accident occurred at about 7:10 p.m. in the St. George ferry terminal, on the north end of Staten Island. "The boat came in kind of hard when it was docking," said a law enforcement source. Emergency crews are on the scene now. It is not known yet how many people were aboard during the accident.

Staten Island ferryboat slams dock
by Staten Island Advance Wednesday July 01, 2009, 7:20 PM A ferryboat has slammed the dock on landing at the St. George Ferry Terminal in St. George. The Police Department reports that nine aboard the boat suffered minor injuries and that 750 people have been safely evacuated. The boat apparently was not damaged. Ferry Hits Dock, Minor Injuries ReportedMinor injuries are being reported after a Staten Island ferry encountered a "hard docking" at the St. George terminal this evening. Coast Guard officials say the ferry lost power during its approach and ran into the pier. Of those injured, six are said to be minor. NY1 has a crew heading to the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.

Im surprised there arent more incidents like these. Piloting a boat is a science unto itself. It takes great skill to dock a boat. Ive had a boat for years and
occasionally still come in rough. Ive seen guys who've owned boats for decades take twenty minutes to get their boat in on a windy day. Hope all are well.

The 15 injured included a police officer assigned to provide security on the ferry, an off-duty police officer, three crew members and 10 passengers, according
to FDNY Division 8 Deputy Chief James Leonard. The most serious injury was a dislocated elbow.

I dont understand why people feel the need to stand on the outside right before it docks. Its one thing to be out there during the trip but before it docks? I
have a boat as well and its not easy to dock in that water due to it being very rough. Best wishes to the MOS
