Police are investigating a triple shooting in Harlem that left a Brooklyn letter carrier dead and two other men wounded. The spokesman says that veteran Brooklyn letter carrier Roberto Caballero, 48, had a confrontation with two men outside of his apartment building on Amsterdam Avenue near 130th Street at around 6 a.m. He then fired a gun, and according to police, struck one victim three times in the chest and another one time in the head. Both victims were taken to local hospitals in critical condition. Police were responding to a call at 1430 Amsterdam Avenue early this morning when they found the two men with gunshot wounds. While they were there, they heard another shot inside the building. They then found Caballero dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The two injured men are in the hospital in critical condition. Caballero was described as a "model employee" with 24 years of service as a postal worker. Residents, who did not want to be identified, say the building is dangerous and drug-infested. The sister of one of those injured in the shooting said her brother, 48-year-old Vincent Rolle, has been in and out of jail since the early 1980s. She said she had recently notified police that he might once again be involved in criminal activity. "All I can tell you is that he's a wanted parole felon," said the sister. "He's wanted and he should be arrested. I called the police on him for them to come pick him up." Residents of the building, which is owned by the Housing Authority, say drugs and violence is common at the site. |

Sounds like a decent guy got the shaft again... Seems like a Postal Worker with 24 years never expected to use his firearm for self defense and could not think beyond this sequence of events before killing himself. Be it illegally acquired, unregistered or not licensed for carry... it sound like the guy was scared of his surroundings and shot two perps in self defense, but were does he go from there? Too bad he didn't kill these pricks.
