I read your column today, "Defender foresees justice & peace" (N.Y. Daily News 4/16/08 pg.18). I have to ask what happened to your fiery defense of these poor unarmed "young men", the victims of police overreaction and cover-up? Before the trial you had it all figured out. These racist, brutal cops, were looking for trouble and some poor groom to be, along with his best buddies, fell, through no fault of their own, into the cross-hairs of these lawless, violent cops. Damn them ,they did not fill out the right paperwork before they left their office that night. Their Lt. ducked down when he heard shots erupt all around him. He should have jumped out immediately and start supervising these 'thug cops', right Denis? They should have realized they were shooting at a wedding party. I can spot them from a mile away, why couldn't they? Oh, and there's the classic, "...senior moment" some poor schlub cop had on the stand. That was grand wasn't it Denis? It had to be a conspiracy. It couldn't be that this cop is a)testifying in a witch hunt against his own which nobody would be happy with, b) a little stressed testifying in front of all the press in the courtroom? Naaaaahhhh...
Denis, at the start of the trial you had a lot to say about all facets of this shooting. Now, it's as if you got a little bored. At least Micheal Daly admitted he was wrong. You just keep slogging through this quagmire acting as though you don't smell the stench emanating from this persecution of 3 good detectives. You are a lot like George Bush. You both cling to your opinions despite the facts, and its effects on the lives of real people. I see you will never let the facts get in the way of your opinion. No, Denis Hamill would never 'cut and run', right Denis? Now that you have seen the truth Denis, why have you not dedicated any column to it with the same intensity you did when you knew nothing? There are still 3 men whose lives are absolute hell for this.
Instead of giving real insight into the dynamics of how Guzman got himself and his 2 buddies shot so that people understand the truth about our 'victims', you give an Oprah Winfrey stlye interview of lawyer Anthony Ricco. I'm not saying he does not deserve his moment, he certainly does for his courage, and lawyering skills. But the Oprah Winfrey treatment???? Why now just a couple of days from a verdict? ??Were you hung over and just decided to write something you would see in a High School newspaper? Your column looks like it was written by a high school senior who's assignment was to interview someone prominent. And why the picture of Nicole Paultre Bell with her head bowed? Exactly how does the photo fit into the story??? It does not, it's just there for sympathy. The truth Denis is, she's not relevant here but you keep throwing her at us. Why Denis???? Do you not think we have the capacity to sympathize with her? Oh I see Denis, if the facts are against you then don't give up! Don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion! Well, I guess you get an "A" for persistence. Too bad you get an "F" for courage.
I would ask everyone reading this to cut, paste and mail this to
