Alick Hermann, who is married to another former 75th Pct. MOS Dorothy Harkins has been diagnosed with Leukemia. There will be a blood drive/Marrow match search this Wednesday April 30th, and the Suburban Temple located at 2900 Jerusalem Ave. in Wantagh, NY from 1530 Hrs. until 2045 Hrs. It is requested that anyone who can get down, and possibly help one of our own.

Posts: 1135 04/29/08 22:50:43	I have been in the national bone marrow data bank for about 10 years. They just draw some blood, and they keep your records on file, so when they check the database for a match, if you pop up, they will call you. I haven't gotten a call yet. Apparently, if you are a match and they take your marrow for the donation, they remove it from your pelvic bones, all the way in the back. It is supposed to be somewhat painful, and puts you out of commission for 2-3 days. At least, that was what I was told 10 years ago. Small price to pay to endure a few days of pain if you can give someone years added on to their life.
