A veteran NYPD detective in the Brooklyn gang unit was suspended yesterday for allegedly punching his three-year-old son in the face, officials said.
Jason Sharp, 37, slugged his kid after a drunken fight with his wife Michelle, 38, early Saturday morning at their Bellmore, Nassau County home , according to court records.
“I had an argument with my wife and punched the wall, I had a few drinks today,” Sharp said, according to court records.
The child was hospitalized for swelling and bruising on his right eye, cheek and nose told police, “My daddy punched me in the face,” court records show.
During the argument, Michelle went downstairs to call for help because Sharp had been drinking, according to court records.
“After a few minutes I went back upstairs and found my son Connor crying with two swollen eyes which were impairing his vision and his nose and face were swollen,” she testified.
Sharp has been a cop for 10 years and has earned 14 awards during his career -- 12 for excellent police work and two meritorious awards.
Sharp was charged with third-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He has been suspended for 30 days without pay.
The fact that any adult (man or woman) would strike a small child with a closed fist turns my stomach....I also read in Newsday that the judge issued orders of protection (refrain from....not stay away) for his wife and son. First thing that happens when one of them comes down is your guns are taken away and you cannot possess firearms while the OOP is in effect. I guess this guy is going to come up short on the OT this year due to his being in some rubber-gun squad like VIPER for 1-2 years or however long the OOP is in effect.
