'Ice Road Truckers’ star Darrell Ward dies in plane crash at 52
Darrell Ward, the star of History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers,” lost his life in a plane crash on Sunday at the age of 52.
Ward, who was slated to begin filming for the upcoming season of the popular trucking series this winter, was headed to Missoula Montana after stopping by The Great American Truck Show in Dallas to begin filming the pilot for his new documentary style show involving the recovery of plane wrecks, according to a press release.
His co-pilot also lost his life in the fatal crash.

When he wasn’t navigating icy roads on camera, the Montana resident enjoyed his life as a log hauler and occasionally assisted the local authorities fight forest fires.
Ward, whose personal motto was “Any road, any load,” became a fan favorite over the course of his four seasons on the docu-series for his fearlessness, and he was also well known for lending a hand to fellow truckers in need.

According to the press release, the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the incident.
