The advocacy group for Hispanic NYPD cops pulled out of next month’s
Puerto Rican Day Parade because the event will celebrate a FALN
The NYPD Hispanic Society said Thursday that it couldn’t be part of any efforts to honor unrepentant terrorist leader Oscar Lopez Rivera — who is being honored as a “National Freedom Hero” at the National Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 11.
“After careful consideration and discussions with several unions, the
NYPD Hispanic Society executive board, executive advisory board,
trustees and members have made a conscientious decision to not
participate in the 2017 National Puerto Rican Day Parade,” according to a
statement by the NYPD Hispanic Society.
“We support the NYPD members who were seriously injured and the
families of the innocent people who lost their lives during these
attacks throughout the United States and in our city.”
Rivera’s Puerto Rican terrorist group, the Armed Forces for National
Liberation (FALN), carried out more than 100 bombings in New York and
other US cities in the 1970s and 80s.
Supporters of the 74-year-old call him a political prisoner. He was
never tied to any of the bombings, but was convicted on a slew of
charges including seditious conspiracy.
Rivera was freed from house arrest in Puerto Rico on Wednesday after decades in custody.
“We took an oath to protect and serve the people,” the NYPD Hispanic
Society said. “Unfortunately, this year’s views and values of the
National Puerto Rican Day Parade committee do not conform with the
society’s mission of promoting peace and unity.”
The NYPD’s largest union, the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, backed the Hispanic Society’s move.
“New York City police officers risk their lives daily to protect all
the people of New York City from the very acts of terrorism perpetrated
by Oscar Rivera Lopez and the FALN,” PBA president Patrick Lynch said.
“The NYC PBA supports the decision of the NYPD Hispanic Society and
its president, Jenimarie Garcia Cruz, to boycott this year’s parade.”
Goya also announced this week it’s pulling out of sponsorship of this
year’s parade – though the food giant didn’t explicitly say it was
reacting to Rivera’s involvement.

When this bag of sh-it walks by there should be union and society reps with bull-horns all along the route, blasting this cockroach as he goes by!

Kudos to all the groups that'll Boycott.
But there's something I don't understand.
IIRC, the FALN wanted an independent Puerto Rico.
But now the island is an economic basket case. Many have left for the states, especially NYC and Florida. The professionals are bailing out. Just the other day there was an article that their doctors are also fleeing.
Now it seems that many are clamoring for the island to be the 51st State.
And we all know that eventually they'll be financially bailed out.
There's not one participant at that Parade that won't want the island bailed out either.
How can anyone - other than deranged Marxists - still be cheering for the death and destruction that Lopez was a part of?
No lo entiendo......I don't understand it.
